If your documents require solicitor certification, a further working day will also be added to the overall processing time.

What happens after we receive your documents

  1. Once your documents arrive safely at our office, you will receive an email confirmation.
  2. Our experienced team will carefully review your documents to ensure they meet the legalisation requirements of the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).
  3. If anything is missing or incorrect, we will contact you promptly so the issue can be resolved without delay.
  4. Once your documents have been approved, we will submit them to the FCDO for apostille certification using our fast-track 24-hour service.

  2. Once your documents have been apostilled, we collect them from the FCDO and dispatch them to the shipping address provided.
  3. You will receive an email confirmation with a tracking number as soon as your documents have been sent.

What is a grant of probate?
A grant of probate is an official court document that gives the executor legal authority to administer a deceased person’s estate. It is commonly used to manage assets, inheritance matters and estate administration.

Can it be legalised?
Yes. A grant of probate can be legalised.

Accepted formats for legalisation:
The FCDO accepts grants of probate in the following formats:

  • the original grant of probate stamped or sealed by the court, or signed by a court official;
  • the original grant of probate without a court stamp, seal or signature, provided it is certified by a UK solicitor or notary public;
  • a photocopy or printout of the grant of probate, provided it is certified by a UK solicitor or notary public.

Does it require solicitor or notary certification?
Yes, unless the document has already been signed, stamped or sealed by the court. If the document does not include a valid court signature, stamp or seal, it must be certified by a UK solicitor or notary public.

Does the original document need to be submitted?
No. A certified photocopy or printout may be accepted.

Important notes:
Where applicable, the document should include a wet ink signature, wet ink seal and date from the court. Unsigned documents, photocopies and printouts must be certified in the UK.

Common uses:
Grants of probate are commonly used for inheritance matters, estate administration, managing assets abroad and overseas legal procedures.

Is embassy attestation required?
Yes, embassy attestation may be required for countries that are not part of the Hague Apostille Convention, such as the UAE or Qatar.
