Please note that if you submit your documents at any of our other offices, one additional working day will be added to the processing time. This allows for postage or courier transfer to our Milton Keynes office.

If your documents require solicitor certification, a further working day will also be added to the overall processing time.

What happens after we receive your documents

  1. Once your documents arrive safely at our office, you will receive an email confirmation.
  2. Our experienced team will carefully review your documents to ensure they meet the legalisation requirements of the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).
  3. If anything is missing or incorrect, we will contact you promptly so the issue can be resolved without delay.
  4. Once your documents have been approved, we will submit them to the FCDO for apostille certification using our fast-track 24-hour service.

A memorandum of association is a company formation document issued by Companies House. It confirms the subscribers’ intention to form a company and is commonly used as part of official company records.

Can it be legalised?
Yes. A memorandum of association can be legalised.

Accepted formats for legalisation:
The FCDO accepts memorandums of association in the following formats:

  • the original memorandum of association with a wet ink signature, seal and date from Companies House;
  • the original memorandum of association without a Companies House signature, provided it is certified by a UK solicitor or notary public;
  • a photocopy or printout of the memorandum of association, provided it is certified by a UK solicitor or notary public.

Does it require solicitor or notary certification?
Yes, unless the document has already been signed or sealed by Companies House. If there is no Companies House signature, seal and date, the document must be certified by a UK solicitor or notary public.

Does the original document need to be submitted?
No. A certified photocopy or printout may be accepted.

Important notes:
If submitting a Companies House signed version, it should include a wet ink signature, seal and date. Unsigned originals, photocopies and printouts must be certified in the UK.

Common uses:
Memorandums of association are commonly used for overseas business registration, company administration and international corporate matters.

Is embassy attestation required?
Yes, embassy attestation may be required for countries that are not part of the Hague Apostille Convention, such as the UAE or Qatar.
