A Gender Recognition Certificate (GRC) is an official document issued by the UK Government that legally recognises a person’s gender change. It allows the individual to be recorded in their affirmed gender for legal purposes, including in birth and marriage certificates.
This document is often requested by:
Certification required: The Gender Recognition Certificate must be certified by a UK solicitor or notary public before it can be apostilled.
Original document: The apostille will be applied to the certified original.
Not eligible for e-apostille: This document must go through the physical apostille process due to its format and confidentiality.
Only official GRCs issued by HM Government are accepted.
Some countries do not legally recognise gender changes. Check with the relevant foreign authority before proceeding.
